Key Features & Capabilities
The feature set that comes with The New Black is pretty impressive. For example, the AI Clothing Piece Generator lets you instantly create detailed flat-lay design. Meanwhile, the AI Fashion Ads Generator creates stunning, on-brand advertisements and revolutionizes how brands market their products.
One of my favorite features is the Virtual Try-On system. It lets you try on specific articles of clothing to see how they look on different body types.

Target Users (Fashion Designers, Brands, Retailers)
What sets The New Black AI apart is its broad range of specialized tools for different users.
Fashion designers can use the AI sketch-to-design tool and the clothing techpack maker to streamline their creative process. The New Black is particularly valuable for smaller design teams and independent designers who might not have access to extensive resources. The ability to quickly generate quality visualizations and technical specifications has really leveled the playing field in the industry.
What I’ve found particularly impressive about The New Black is its commitment to sustainability. It helps designers and brands make more environmentally conscious decisions by allowing them to visualize and iterate designs digitally before moving to physical production. This significantly reduces waste in the sampling process!

How to Use The New Black
Here’s how I used The New Black to generate an image of an Italian woman wearing a high-tech cyberpunk streetwear outfit:
- Create an Account
- Select Text to Image
- Determine What to Create
- Choose the Image Type
- Select the Model’s Gender
- Choose the Model’s Age & Ethnicity
- Add a Text Prompt
- Choose a Format & Number of Images
- Generate Your Image
- Retouch Your Image
Step 1: Create an Account
I started by going to thenewblack.ai and selecting “Start with Google Account.” You’ll have to create an account to be granted three free credits (that’s three photos you can generate).
After creating an account, I selected “Create an AI outfit.”
Step 2: Select Text to Image
In the left panel, I started by choosing my Mode:
I selected “Text to image.”
Step 3: Determine What to Create
Next, I had to choose what I wanted to create:
- Realistic to generate realistic photos of fashion models
- Clothing to generate outfits and specific articles of clothing
- Accessory to generate bag styles
- Beauty to generate fragrance products
The clothing option seemed to have the most versatility, so that’s the one I chose.
Step 4: Choose the Image Type
From there, I had to choose my image type. There were plenty to choose from:
- Studio
- Runway
- Custom background
- Silhouette CGI
- Silhouette Sketch
- Shoes
- Lingerie/underwear
- Swimwear
- T-shirt design
- Fabric
I stuck with “Studio,” but choose the image type that suits your vision!
Step 5: Select the Model’s Gender
Next, I had to choose whether or not I wanted my image to have a human model, if I wanted to generate the front and back, and which gender I wanted. I decided to generate just the front of a female model.
Step 6: Choose the Model’s Age & Ethnicity
I also had the option to select the age, ethnicity, and size. There was a wide range, but I went with 30, Italian, and mid-size.
Step 7: Add a Text Prompt
Finally, the most important part. Giving The New Black a prompt describing the outfit I wanted to generate!
There were three ways to do this:
- Free: Manually describe your outfit or get The New Black to generate a random prompt
- Guided: Add keywords for individual aspects of the clothing (type, colors, features, usage, style, inspiration, and fabric)
- Body: Describe each aspect of what the model is wearing, including head, top, bottom, and shoes
I went with the simplest option (Free) and described my outfit with as much detail as possible. I gave it a long description of a high-tech cyberpunk streetwear outfit.
Step 8: Choose a Format & Number of Images
Last but not least, I had to choose whether or not I wanted to use a training style (upload reference images as inspiration to create new designs in the same style), the format, and the number of images. I then hit “Create now”!
Step 9: Generate Your Image
Seconds later, my image was generated! I was impressed with how quickly The New Black generated my image. It was accurate to what I described in my text prompt!
Step 10: Retouch Your Image
From there, I could select my image to access the editing options:
- Retouch
- Turn into video
- Remove background
- Upscale
I selected the Retouch tool.
The Retouch tool let me mask areas of clothing and describe what I wanted to remove or replace.
I masked over the area (her eyes) where I wanted to add sunglasses and hit “Replace.”
Seconds later, The New Black generated exactly what I had described! The sunglasses went well with my model’s outfit.
Overall, The New Black felt like a creative playground where I could bring my fashion ideas to life in seconds. I was amazed at how effortlessly it accurately turned my descriptions into high-quality images! I also found that the Retouch tool for removing and replacing elements worked well.
Top 3 The New Black Alternatives
If you’re curious about the best The New Black alternatives, here’s what I’d recommend.
Off/Script
The first alternative to The New Black is Off/Script. What I love about Off/Script is its more personalized, creative control.
On the one hand, The New Black is feature-rich. It offers AI tools for everything from sketching to virtual try-ons, 3D modeling, and AI-generated runway visuals. It’s built for fashion designers, brands, and developers who want to use AI to streamline their creative workflow.
The New Black also integrates AI fashion videos, turning images into dynamic clips for e-commerce. This gives designers and brands an edge in digital marketing.
Meanwhile, Off/Script is a community-driven product creation platform that uses AI to help creators design unique fashion and product pieces. You can create custom designs, submit concepts, and potentially manufacture your ideas! Off/Script supports clothing, accessories, home decor, and furniture design.
For an AI-powered platform with an extensive toolkit that covers every step of the fashion design process, choose The New Black. For an exclusively mobile app that uses AI to bring your unique designs to life, choose Off/Script!
Ablo
My next alternative to The New Black is Ablo. Ablo is an innovative AI fashion design platform that offers unique creative capabilities for designers and brands. Ablo supports “fashion on demand”, democratizes design, and has attracted major fashion brands like Balmain, Pangaia, Dolce and Gabbana, and Ralph Lauren.
Both platforms cater to fashion designers and brands by providing AI-driven solutions that simplify the design process and spark artistic inspiration. However, while The New Black offers an extensive suite of AI tools for clothing design, jewelry, and fashion videos, Ablo focuses on user-friendly collaboration features.
Both tools also prioritize creative empowerment through AI to generate custom clothing designs. They also emphasize turning concepts into tangible outputs. If you’re a fashion brand or designer looking for versatile tools to revolutionize your design process, either option provides a wealth of opportunities!
What sets Ablo apart is its intuitive collaboration tools. Unlike The New Black, which frequently updates its robust toolset for solo creators and brands, Ablo places a stronger emphasis on connecting designers with leading brands and monetizing your creativity on Web3.
For a platform with a comprehensive AI toolset and advanced features for independent designers and brands, choose The New Black! For more of a collaborative tool, Ablo is the perfect choice.
YesPlz
My final alternative to The New Black is YesPlz. Both platforms operate in the AI-powered fashion technology space but with distinctly different approaches and core functionalities.
The New Black is a comprehensive AI fashion design platform, offering tools like text-to-image clothing generators, virtual try-ons, and 3D modeling. It’s geared toward designers and brands needing advanced design capabilities.
YesPlz is an AI-powered e-commerce platform focused on product discovery and personalization. Its key features include an AI Stylist powered by ChatGPT, visual search capabilities, automated product tagging, and personalized shopping recommendations. While not a design tool like The New Black, YesPlz enhances the online shopping experience through intelligent technology.
For comprehensive design creation, choose The New Black. For intelligent e-commerce product discovery, choose YesPlz!
The New Black Review: The Right Tool For You?
Using The New Black felt like unlocking a creative toolbox where ideas were transformed into reality. The platform helped me design a unique outfit in seconds! But as exciting as the tool was, relying solely on AI-generated designs can easily take away from the organic “spark” of traditional creativity.
The New Black is an excellent tool for streamlining the design process. But if you’re curious about the best The New Black alternatives, here’s what I’d recommend:
- Off/Script is best for creators seeking personalized mobile design experiences and submitting concepts for production.
- Ablo is best for fashion professionals seeking collaborative tools, connections with big brands, and monetizing creativity on Web3.
- YesPlz is best for brands focused on e-commerce product discovery and enhancing online shopping experiences with intelligent AI recommendations.
